Retreat Center · Roberts Creek
Five-acre forest retreat in Roberts Creek, Sunshine Coast BC—intimate gatherings for 6–15 people since 2001.
Linwood House opened in 2001 as an intimate retreat centre and guest house designed for groups seeking tranquility without compromise. Situated on a private five-acre forest estate in Roberts Creek, on the Sunshine Coast, the property is described by guests as a "forest cathedral"—a setting that balances luxury accommodation with deep connection to the natural world. The retreat sits 15 minutes from the Langdale ferry and close to the seaside towns of Gibsons and Sechelt, offering easy access from Vancouver paired with genuine seclusion.
The physical infrastructure reflects decades of learning about what retreat facilitators and groups actually need. The Retreat Centre houses five bedrooms, a 700-square-foot Great Room with vaulted ceilings and stone fireplace, and a dedicated 1,200-square-foot yoga studio on the third floor—a purpose-built space where materials remain in place from opening circle to closing one. The self-contained Garden Suite provides retreat leaders with private quarters for preparation and rest. The Carriage House, a post-and-beam structure with four additional bedrooms, offers a second full kitchen and infrared sauna. Across all three buildings, the property accommodates 11 bedrooms and 15 beds, sized intentionally for groups of 6 to 15 people rather than scaled for volume.
Mark Bailey, the property's host, oversees operations alongside a network of local practitioners and service providers. The philosophy centers on creating an environment where participants can step outside daily stressors, nourish the soul, and reconnect with themselves and each other. Every detail—from the placement of the kitchen two floors below the yoga studio to the private trail system threading through old-growth forest—has been considered to support the arc of a retreat day and the work of facilitators.
Linwood House operates on exclusive-use bookings only, meaning one group at a time has full access to the buildings, gardens, and trails with no outside visitors or shared grounds. This model has made the property a returning destination for yoga teachers, wellness practitioners, corporate leadership teams, writers' circles, and independent facilitators across British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. The surrounding landscape—featuring 600-year-old trees, ocean vistas, waterfalls, and a four-minute drive to the beach—extends the retreat experience into guided hikes, forest bathing, kayaking, and seasonal outdoor adventures arranged through local partnerships.
